Brother Martin High School

Thomas F. and Elaine P. Ridgley Fine Arts and Athletics Center (1999)
New Orleans, Louisiana

Brother Martin High School commissioned Waggonner & Ball to develop a master plan for the campus of this all-male school in New Orleans’ Gentilly neighborhood. This plan envisions renovations of existing buildings as well as four new buildings to add classrooms, laboratories, a library, specialized training and instructional areas, a large multipurpose room and a chapel, as well as reconfiguration of athletic fields and facilities. More than simply providing new program spaces, the plan is conceived to create a new overall sense of place and campus. The Arts and Athletic Facility, completed in 1999, connects to the school’s main gymnasium, which was also renovated at that time. Athletic fields and supporting buildings were constructed across from the main academic block. Interrupted by Hurricane Katrina, the Science and Mathematics Building was completed at the north end of the campus in 2007. This new facility focuses instruction in these key related disciplines and realigns physical spaces to serve an evolving curriculum. The Chapel is designed and ready for execution.
