Make It Right Housing Prototypes
New Orleans, LouisianaCommissioned by Brad Pitt's Make It Right Foundation, the firm designed two prototypes for a two-family house in New Orleans' Hurricane Katrina-devastated Lower Ninth Ward. The design selected by the neighborhood and Foundation is a modern camelback structure that emulates the prevalent vernacular New Orleans shotgun house type. The house contains a three bedroom family unit as well as a one bedroom studio that can house an aging parent, college student or young professional. Raised eight feet off the ground to meet flood elevation requirements and to shelter vehicles, the house has two levels and is clad in cement board panels and siding with a galvanized metal standing seam roof.
