Trinity Episcopal School
Les Enfants (Nursery School)New Orleans, Louisiana
Located in New Orleans’ Historic Garden District, Trinity Episcopal Church and School commissioned the firm to develop a Master Plan to identify potential building sites and property acquisition opportunities. Among other future facilities, the Master Plan located a site at the corner of the campus for a local nursery program (Les Enfants) that the Pre-K through 8th grade school was acquiring. The 12,000 sf Nursery School, which was completed in Fall 2004 at a cost of approximately $2 million, is a U-shaped assemblage of residential-scale structures surrounding a common courtyard/playspace. Two existing shotgun ‘camelback’ houses were renovated and linked to a third new building with covered outdoor galleries that act as circulation corridors for the eight small classrooms and shared multi-purpose hall. The complex, subject to design review by the New Orleans Historic Districts Landmarks Commission, was designed to fit into its historic neighborhood in terms of scale, materials and architectural expression.
