Coastal Sustainability Studio at LSU

Collaboration with Waggonner & Ball Architects

The Coastal Sustainability Studio at Louisiana State University (LSU) uses a multidisciplinary and systems-oriented training framework to develop techniques for reducing environmental vulnerability and enhancing community resiliency along the dynamic coast of Louisiana. Projects in the Studio link challenges of storm disturbances, land-use transformations, and climate change to develop adaptation in both natural and human systems.

A recent article from LSU highlights the innovative work and collaboration the Coastal Sustainability Studio is leading to make Louisiana a more resilient landscape.

The image above shows existing conditions near the Bayou Bienvenue restoration project, which will provide a comprehensive overview, ecological analysis, and a coherent series of design scenarios for the regeneration of the central wetland area and the Lower 9th Ward. The project design will focus on: a regenerative ecosystem, intelligent storm protection, a productive and innovative economy, and a dynamic and sustainable community.
